A National Winner in this year’s Ethiopia Cup – a celebration of the best small-batch coffees the country has to offer – this washed microlot combines peach and apricot notes with a honeyed sweetness, a sherbet-lemon acidity and a tea-like body.

Picked by hand then washed at a small wet mill, it's fermented for 16-36 hours and dried on raised wooden beds for about 11 days, where it’s hand-turned once a day. It’s a very traditional processing method which takes great love and care, creating a real showcase for the classic flavours of the Sidama region.

Bekele Neyo Noute

The ProducerBekele Neyo Noute

Bekele Neyo Noute’s farm is a family affair. Raised by two coffee growing parents, he got his start when he acquired a small plot 28 years ago. Coffee trees are now the main source of income for his family of 12.

Bekele’s coffee grows beneath shade trees which protect the plants, and alongside corn and beans which promote crop diversity - two farming methods which boost quality and consistency. He previously sold through a coffee exchange which didn’t identify specific farms, but the switch to selling through Ethiopian coffee exporter Trabocca has brought traceability, awards, recognition and much better prices.

How to brew Ethiopia Neyo Noute

This coffee’s fruity, floral profile and citrus acidity shines with pour over brewing in particular. We recommend a v60, or a Chemex for group brewing, but read our guides to find out what works best for you and your home setup.
